Did you know that October is recognized as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and Health Literacy Month? This is the perfect time to raise awareness, educate ourselves, and shine a light on these critical issues.

As the weather cools down, we hope you’re staying cozy and motivated. If you’re finding it hard to unwind, don’t worry—we have some exciting events lined up this month to help you relax and recharge!

Two Doctoral Senator Positions Open

This is a year-long position where you will have the opportunity to represent the doctoral student body on the GSGA Executive Council. As a doctoral senator, you will be responsible for advocating for the needs and concerns of your fellow doctoral students, attending GSGA meetings, and participating in decision-making processes that impact the student community. This position also offers a stipend of $600 per semester. You can learn more about this position here.

Last Call to Register to Vote!

New York State residents: The deadline to register to vote is fast approaching—Saturday, October 26, 2024. Next Tuesday, October 29, 2024 is also National Early Voting Day. Don’t miss your chance to vote!

If you’re from outside New York, visit vote.gov to check your state’s voter registration deadlines. Even if you’re already registered, it’s a good idea to verify your registration status to ensure you haven’t been removed from the voter rolls.

CUNY Votes is your fast and easy resource for registering to vote and ensuring you’re ready for the upcoming elections. Don’t wait—get voter-ready today!

Want to be more involved? Volunteer as a nonpartisan Election Protection volunteer! You can volunteer from home or in person with Election Protection, a national network of nonprofits committed to safeguarding voter rights by offering information, resources, and assistance for any issues voters face.

Halloween Costume Contest

October 28 – 31 | Virtual

Get into the Halloween spirit and show off your best costume by submitting a photo to our email for a chance to win exciting prizes! Please use your SPH email and send in a photo of your costume to gsga@sphmail.cuny.edu.The top three costumes will be awarded a surprise gift, so don’t miss out—send in your spooky looks! Voting and winner announcements will all take place on Instagram, so make sure you’re following us to stay updated.

 

Virtual Movie Night: Coraline!

Wednesday, October 30 | 6:30 PM | Virtual | Register here

Join us for a cozy Movie Night on October 30th! We’ll be streaming the beloved movie Coraline. All who attend will receive a gift coupon from Chipotle afterward.


NYS Open Meetings Law

Pursuant to the New York State Open Meetings Law, SPH students and members of the public have the right to attend meetings of the Graduate Student Government Association.

Should you like to attend this meeting and observe, you may do so. Our meetings are currently being held virtually on Saturdays at 6pm, so if you would like to sit in on one of these meetings send an email to gsga@sphmail.cuny.edu at least 24 hours before the time of the meeting and we will send the Zoom link.
