Welcome to the Fall 2024 semester! We hope you’ve had a smooth start and are beginning to settle into the rhythm of the new academic year. This year, we’re working hard to make it an exciting and enriching experience, filled with opportunities for you to make the most of your time here at CUNY SPH.

This is a year-long position where you will have the opportunity to represent the doctoral student body on the GSGA Executive Council. As a doctoral senator, you will be responsible for advocating for the needs and concerns of your fellow doctoral students, attending GSGA meeting, and participating in decision-making processes that impact the student community. Are you planning to vote in the November 2024 elections? If not, you may want to reconsider. Your vote and the outcomes of the Presidential, Congressional, and local elections could affect your health and public health for many years to come. Bruce Y. Lee, MD, MBA, Professor of Health Policy and Management, AI-and computation expert, and journalist will cover 24 major issues that will hinge on what will emerge from the 2024 elections and why this could be a turning point in history for not only the U.S. but the world. Join Professor Bruce Y. Lee in a conversation to learn more about the different health and public health policies at play.

Join us for upcoming NY Community of Practice discussions at 1 p.m. on these dates (register for the conversations here):

  • October 2 – Peer-to-peer engagement strategies
  • October 16 – Get-out-the-vote
  • October 30 – TBD
  • November 13 – Debrief & post-election planning

 

A few key dates for you to consider:

  • October 26 – Last day for NY board of elections to receive voter registration form & Last day for board to elections to receive absentee or early mail ballot request via mail or online portal
  • October 26 – November 3: NY early voting
  • October 29 – Vote Early Day
  • November 4 – Election Hero Day & Last day to apply in person for NY absentee or early mail ballot
  • November 5 – Election Day (polls open from 6AM-9PM in NY) & Last day to postmark NY absentee or early mail ballot and last day to deliver ballot in person to your county board of elections or any poll site in your county
  • November 20-22- Student Vote Summit

NYS Open Meetings Law

Pursuant to the New York State Open Meetings Law, SPH students and members of the public have the right to attend meetings of the Graduate Student Government Association. Please be on a look out for our next meetings for the following academic term.

Should you like to attend this meeting and observe, you may do so. Our meetings are currently being held virtually, so if you would like to sit in on one of these meetings send an email to gsga@sphmail.cuny.edu at least 24 hours before the time of the meeting and we will send the Zoom link.
