Happy Wednesday SPH Students,

Would you like to learn more about the Graduate Student Government Association? Curious to know what we do to support SPH students? Start working with us now so that you can be ready to serve as a student leader next year! We are looking for students who want to serve their SPH student community and be part of a team. Email GSGA@sphmail.cuny.edu today if you are interested in becoming a member of your school’s student government. We will also be hosting a GSGA Townhall on Thursday, February 18, 2021 at 7:00pm. RSVP here, get the most out of 2021, and get involved!

Thank you to the students who participated in the GO RED day last Friday! See below a collage of SPH students rocking their red and raising awareness on heart disease. We hope to see you in our next public health awareness collage. Take a look at the March calendar here.

Did you know that you can apply for reimbursement when you pay out of pocket to attend virtual public health conferences? There are also GSGA awards for community service, professional development, and manuscripts. You may also get reimbursed for the upcoming 2021 Health Datapalooza and National Health Policy Conference below. Oh yes, we are talking serious here!

Anti-Asian Xenophobic Harassment Training

February 17th at 5:00pm ET/4:00pm CT/3:00pm MT/ 2:00pm PT/ 11:00am HST. RSVP

In response to the rise in Anti-Asian/American and xenophobic harassment, Hollaback! partnered with Asian Americans Advancing Justice | AAJC to adapt their free bystander intervention training as well as offering a de-escalation training to meet this moment. 2021 Greenlight Festival: CUNY Climate Conference

Wellness at the School of Public Health

The Office of Student Wellness is here to provide you with short-term individual counseling, support groups, community referrals, and various events aimed at promoting healthy coping skills.   As we collectively continue to navigate the range of challenges presented by multiple pandemics, the Office of Student Wellness seeks to gain a clearer understanding of your wellness needs and preferences for engaging.  This is a reminder to please complete the survey below to assist the Office of Student Wellness in supporting you and your peers.  Your feedback is much appreciated!

STUDENT DEVELOPMENT

CUNY LGBTQI

The CUNY Central Office of Student Inclusion Initiatives will be accepting applications for two student development programs for LGBTQI+ students this upcoming semester. Both programs will run on Fridays through the Spring 2021 semester and will offer a variety of professional and personal development experiences.

1) The CUNY LGBTQI+ Advocacy Academy facilitated by James Vacca and will focus on political advocacy, policy development, community organizing, and civic engagement. Students accepted into this program will be offered a monthly stipend. 2) The CUNY LGBTQI+ Leadership Program facilitated by Dr. David Rivera and will focus on social justice, social-emotional learning, sociocultural identity development, and community engagement. For more information and the application click: https://bit.ly/CUNYLeadership

Student Emergency Funds 

If you are a current CUNY SPH student-facing short-term financial hardship, we encourage you to submit an application to the Student Emergency Fund.

To access the application, you will need to log into SharePoint using your SPH login (sph\______) credentials.  Reach out to the HelpDesk@sph.cuny.edu if you require assistance with SharePoint.
